Maine Engagement Photographer | Sarah & Drew at Sugarloaf Mountain

A Sunny Spring Day Full of Laughter, Stories, and New Friendships

There’s something special about engagement sessions that feel less like “taking photos” and more like spending an evening catching up with old friends beside the mountains. That was exactly the vibe with Sugarloaf Mountain engagement session with Sarah and Drew.

The two of them had already taken engagement photos while on vacation, so this session was never really about checking a box. Instead, it gave us the chance to slow down, get to know each other better, and simply have fun together before their wedding day. Honestly, from the very first few minutes, we clicked instantly. Between stories about life, memories from the past, and the everyday chaos that somehow makes life beautiful, we never stopped talking the entire session. It felt easy in the best possible way.

Spring in Maine was still dragging its feet a little, with the landscape caught somewhere between winter and warmer days ahead, but we absolutely made the best of it. The sun showed up in full force and gave us one of the warmest, brightest days we’ve had in quite a while. The kind of day where you can finally exhale after a long Maine winter and think, okay… maybe spring really is coming.

We wandered all around Sugarloaf Mountain together, starting at the beach where the light danced across the water and the mountains stood quietly in the distance like giant blue watercolor brushstrokes. Sarah and Drew were so natural together. No forced moments, no awkwardness, just genuine laughter, playful energy, and the kind of comfort that comes from truly enjoying one another’s company.

From there, we made our way up toward the mountain before ending down at the outdoor center, chasing light, scenery, and little in-between moments along the way. One of my favorite things about sessions like this is how much the location becomes part of the story. Even before everything turns green, the Western Mountains of Maine have this rugged kind of beauty to them. Bare trees, cool air, patches of lingering spring earth, and sunlight pouring over the mountain somehow created the perfect backdrop for such a laid-back and joy-filled evening.

By the end of the session, it felt less like I had just photographed clients and more like I had spent time with people I’d known for years. Those are always my favorite kinds of sessions.

Sarah and Drew, thank you for trusting me to capture this season of your lives. I already know your wedding day is going to be filled with so much love, laughter, and unforgettable moments, and I truly cannot wait to celebrate alongside you and all of your favorite people.
